Q: How long will my order take?

A: Each piece is made by hand and generally takes 2-3 weeks before shipment, although we try to surprise you and get this out to you more quickly. Prior to major holidays such as Mother’s Day and Christmas, production times can take the full three weeks, so we ask that you please order as far in advance for holidays as possible.Q: I placed an order but I’m not sure that it went through. Now What? A: Shortly after your order is placed you should receive an e-mail confirmation. If you do not get an e-mail confirmation it is most likely that e-mail did not make it through the spam filters. Please contact us and we can try to send it to you from another address and/or you can supply us with another e-mail address to send it to.

Q: Can you do rush orders?

A: Usually we can accommodate rush orders, however, it depends on what you want, whether the components are in stock and how soon you need it. We will try to accommodate rush orders but in the event that we can’t get it there in time, we can send a gift card that lets the recipient know that a gift has been ordered for them and will be arriving shortly. If you need an order in a hurry please call email us at rush@somethingaboutsilver.com. Please do NOT just leave rush requests in the comments section with your placed order as we may not see this before we start working on your order. There may be extra charges for rush shipping to accommodate your delivery date request. We will contact you via email if that is the case.

Q: Are gift certificate or gift cards available?

A: Yes, gift certificates are available in any amount. We also have a “gift card” for orders that can not arrive in time for a specific date. This card can be sent to either the gift giver or directly to the recipient. It let’s them know that a custom gift has been ordered for them and will be arriving shortly. Place your order and then use order comments or e-mail to receive your gift card. Please let us know how you would like the “from” field to read.

Q: How do I care for my jewelry?

A: All sterling silver will tarnish when exposed to air. It therefore, requires a little maintenance to keep it looking its best. It is best to remove your jewelry before showering or swimming. When you are not wearing your piece keep it the clear anti-tarnish bag it arrives in. Most pieces have a patina which creates the black areas on your piece. To clean your piece only use dry polishing cloths meant for silver. One cloth will be included with your order. If you use a dip or creme polish, the patina will be removed.

Q: What are your charms made from?

A: We use both sterling and fine silver. Fine silver is pure silver. Sterling silver, or .925 silver, is typically mixed with copper and other metals. Both have advantages. Sterling Silver is harder than Fine Silver, but tarnishes rather quickly and requires regular wiping with a polishing cloth to keep it looking its best. Fine Silver tarnishes very slowly and then only slightly. Fine silver is used for most of the organic style pieces as it allows for greater flexibility and creative flexibility.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Each piece is custom made and therefore non-refundable. We do however want you to be completely happy with your piece. If you have any problems please contact us and we will work together until you are satisfied.

Q: What is your repair policy for chains?

A: If your chain should break within the 1st 30 days just send it back and we will repair it free of charge. After the 1st 30 days we charge $20 plus 4.50 shipping to repair and refinish your chain.

Q: Can you ship internationally?

A: Yes. We use USPS First Class International shipping. Insurance can be purchased upon request. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen packages once they are placed in the care of any mail carrier if insurance is not purchased. For orders over $150, we will automatically include insurance.

Q: We’ve had a new addition to the family. Can you add our newest little ones name to the necklace you previously made?

A: Congratulations, we are always happy to hear about new additions to your family and we are honored to be able to create a piece that commemorates your family. The quick answer is, sometimes we can, and sometimes we cannot. It depends on the necklace design you have and if there is enough room to add the name. We also must take into account the visual “balance” of the necklace. Each necklace is an individual case. Please contact us and we will work with you to do this. If we can add the name to the existing necklace, there is $15 fee plus return shipping for this service.

Q: I have some questions about my order or would like to discuss design options. How can we best reach you?

A: We are happy to talk to you. While it is best to reach us via email, we usually respond to emails within just a few minutes or hours, we are also available by phone.  Please leave us your contact information and the best time to reach you.  We are a small staff so during holidays we might need a little longer to get back with you. We look forward to speaking with you.
